Maintenance Supervisor – 3rd Shift

Schedule: 3rd Shift (Overnight)
Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the execution of planned, scheduled, and emergency maintenance work during third shift. This position ensures maintenance personnel, materials, and resources are used safely and effectively while supporting reliable production operations.

The Maintenance Supervisor will spend significant time on the plant floor, provide technical guidance, remove obstacles affecting job execution, and develop the skills of assigned maintenance team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the maintenance team’s compliance with safety, quality, food safety, and environmental requirements.

• Ensure all maintenance work, equipment modifications, and process changes have complete work orders and required approvals.

• Attend daily operations shift-handover meetings to review events from the previous 24 hours.

• Lead maintenance shift-handover meetings and review downtime, completed work orders, outstanding issues, and follow-up actions.

• Represent maintenance during production meetings and communicate equipment-related priorities and concerns.

• Review planned job packages for labor requirements, materials, replacement parts, work methods, permits, and priorities.

• Assign work orders and provide each team member with a complete workload at the beginning of the shift.

• Partner with planners and schedulers to manage the maintenance backlog and establish work priorities.

• Spend at least 60% of the shift on the production floor engaging with maintenance mechanics and serving as the maintenance liaison to production.

• Direct and monitor maintenance work for safety, quality, completion time, cost, and thoroughness.

• Provide technical support and guidance to ensure maintenance jobs are completed correctly.

• Communicate with production regarding schedule changes, job duration, and conditions affecting maintenance work.

• Manage crew payroll, overtime, attendance, tardiness, and absenteeism according to established site policies.

• Ensure maintenance team members follow workplace policies, procedures, and professional conduct expectations.

• Support improved changeover performance and changeover-parts management.

• Ensure labor hours, materials, failure causes, corrective actions, component information, and equipment conditions are documented accurately in SAP.

• Maintain strong housekeeping standards and safe work practices throughout the shift.

• Own continuous-improvement activities for assigned equipment areas, including improvements to Overall Equipment Effectiveness.

• Support reliability and innovation initiatives throughout production areas.

• Lead safety-awareness and information-sharing meetings.

• Promote employee engagement, accountability, and teamwork.

• Provide on-the-job training and observe individual performance to identify skill-development opportunities.

• Train maintenance personnel and other users on proper SAP procedures.

• Develop and maintain individual development plans and conduct regular one-on-one feedback sessions.

• Strengthen the maintenance team’s capabilities in plant utilities and production equipment.

• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous personal and professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least five years of manufacturing or maintenance-supervision experience.

• Experience supervising and developing industrial maintenance personnel.

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

• Experience with drive systems, transmissions, and related mechanical equipment.

• Basic experience with industrial controllers and processors.

• Working knowledge of industrial electrical wiring, electrical and mechanical devices, and control circuits.

• Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial drives.

• SAP or comparable computerized maintenance management system experience.

• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
