Assistant Principal High School

General Statement of Job Under occasional supervision, assists the Principal in providing the leadership and management skills necessary to maximize the efforts of teachers and students in an environment which is conducive to educational enhancement, growth and achievement. Assists in supervising classified staff members. Ensures subordinates' adherence to regulations, District goals and policies. Reports to the Principal. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Assists in supervising classified staff members; assigns work loads and establishes work schedules; directs and supervises duties of assigned staff including instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintains education, conduct and facility standards; coordinates activities; handles personnel issues and recommends the discipline of employees as appropriate. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and adherence to District policies; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate, and offers advice and assistance as needed. Conducts the duties of Principal in his/her absence. Assists the Principal in planning, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of school-wide programs, policies, goals and objectives; ensures all School Board and administrative policies are effectively explained and implemented. Supervises and coordinates student attendance policies and record-keeping. Monitors student behavior and oversees student disciplinary action. Coordinates and supervises student activities and special programs as assigned, and recruits teacher volunteers. Observes and evaluates the instructional program, observes classroom environment, and makes recommendations for improvement in instruction and class management as appropriate. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from teachers, students and parents. Works to resolve administrative, instructional and behavioral problems. Assists in the preparation of the master class schedule and maintains school calendar. Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and/or directives. Additional Duties Attends and/or conducts District, staff and community meetings as necessary. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Education and Training Requires a Master's degree in education administration supplemented by four years of experience as a successful classroom teacher, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess certifications to meet state, federal and AdvancEd standards. Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Physical Requirements – Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a computer, telephone, etc. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds. Data Conception – Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics of data, people or things. Interpersonal Communications – Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to subordinates and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor. Language Ability – Requires the ability to read a variety of laws, policies and procedures, technical and professional studies, reference books and publications, etc. Requires the ability to prepare performance appraisals, policies, complex reports, schedules, correspondence, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence. Intelligence – Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions... Verbal Aptitude – Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions, and to counsel and teach employees. Numerical Aptitude – Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to utilize mathematical formulas, to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time. Form/Spatial Aptitude – Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read information. Motor Coordination – Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery. Manual Dexterity – Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Color Discrimination – Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament – Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations, volatile situations or tight deadlines. Physical Communications – Requires the ability to talk and/or hear. Performance Evaluation Criteria Job Knowledge – Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the District and High School Services as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Assistant Principal. Is knowledgeable of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Quality of Work – Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Quantity of Work – Performs described duties and related assignments efficiently and effectively. Dependability – Assumes responsibility for completing assigned work. Attendance – Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to District policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Initiative and Enthusiasm – Maintains an enthusiastic, self‑reliant and self‑starting approach to meet job responsibilities. Judgment – Exercises analytical judgment in areas of responsibility. Cooperation – Accepts supervisory instruction and direction, and strives to meet the goals and objectives of same. Relationships – Shares knowledge with managers, supervisors and staff for mutual and district benefit. Coordination of Work – Plans and organizes daily work routine. Safety and Housekeeping – Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the District. Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Leading, Controlling, Delegating, Decision Making, Creativity, Human Relations, Policy Implementation, Policy Formulation – Applies these functions to achieve departmental and District objectives. #J-18808-Ljbffr
