Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer / Tableau Specialist

Location: Irvine, CA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 2–3 days onsite per week
Candidate Location: Must reside within approximately 30 miles of Irvine, CA
Duration: 3-Month Contract

Our client, a global medical device manufacturer , has an immediate opening for a Senior Business

Intelligence (BI) Developer / Tableau Specialist on a 3-month contract.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with Tableau development, SQL, data modeling, data visualization, and BI best practices , along with the ability to translate business requirements into clear, actionable reporting and analytics solutions. This individual will lead the design and support of commercial business intelligence applications and architecture while partnering closely with

Commercial and Sales Operations stakeholders.

This position requires someone who can operate at both the business and technical levels , understanding stakeholder needs while independently developing, optimizing, and supporting sophisticated BI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of commercial business intelligence applications and architecture .
• Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards, reports, visualizations, and analytics solutions .
• Partner with Commercial and Sales Operations stakeholders to understand, document, and prioritize data, reporting, and information requirements .
• Translate business requirements and complex datasets into clear, actionable, and user-friendly dashboards and data visualizations .
• Develop and optimize SQL queries, datasets, data models, calculations, filters, and supporting data structures .
• Solve complex technical, data, reporting, and BI performance issues.
• Optimize the performance of business intelligence tools through performance tuning, data filtering, indexing, and data-model improvements .
• Establish testing methodologies and criteria to ensure data accuracy, dashboard functionality, and reporting quality .
• Develop standards, policies, and procedures governing the form, structure, and attributes of business intelligence tools and systems.
• Develop and monitor data and information quality metrics to support high levels of data integrity.
• Design and coordinate training and coaching for users to improve adoption and effective use of BI tools.
• Research emerging technologies and develop business cases supporting enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing reporting processes, analytics capabilities, and decision-making through better use of data.
• Adapt existing approaches and develop new solutions to address complex business intelligence requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, data architecture, or a related field .
• Strong hands-on expertise with Tableau development and data visualization .
• Strong expertise in SQL, data querying, and working with complex datasets .
• Experience with data modeling and performance optimization techniques .
• Proven ability to optimize BI tools through performance tuning, data filtering, and indexing .
• Experience developing data quality metrics and ensuring high levels of data integrity.
• Strong understanding of BI development, reporting, visualization, and data-quality best practices .
• Excellent stakeholder communication, requirements gathering, and business analysis capabilities.
• Ability to translate business needs into effective technical BI and reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with BI platforms and researching emerging BI technologies .
• Ability to design and deliver user training, coaching, and support sessions .
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently address complex BI challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Commercial Analytics, Sales Operations, Sales Analytics, or commercial reporting .
• Experience within a medical device, healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated environment .
• Experience developing enterprise-level Tableau dashboards and reusable BI solutions.
• Experience working directly with business stakeholders throughout the requirements, development, testing, deployment, and support lifecycle .

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will be a hands-on Senior Tableau / BI Developer with 4+ years of experience who can take a reporting or analytics requirement from initial stakeholder discussion through data analysis, modeling, development, testing, visualization, and deployment.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong combination of Tableau, SQL, data modeling, dashboard development, performance optimization, and stakeholder-facing experience . Experience supporting Commercial or Sales Operations analytics within medical device, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or another regulated industry would be particularly relevant.
