Role: Patent Attorney
Location: Washington, DC
A growing intellectual property law firm is seeking a Patent Attorney with a Ph.D. to join its sophisticated Life Sciences & Chemistry practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys complex science, wants meaningful responsibility, and is motivated to build strong technical and legal expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
- Handle patent matters involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and related life sciences technologies.
- Analyze complex scientific and technical subject matter and translate it into effective patent strategies.
- Work with inventors and clients to develop and protect intellectual property.
- Conduct patentability and related technical/legal analyses.
- Draft and respond to Office Actions and other USPTO correspondence.
- Take increasing ownership of client matters as your experience and judgment develop.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related life sciences discipline.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active USPTO registration.
- Active U.S. state bar membership.
- Minimum 1 years of substantive patent prosecution experience.
- Strong scientific, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining high-quality work.
