REGISTERED NURSE, PACU, Per Diem

Overview Sierra Medical Center, part of Northern Nevada Health System, is a 170-bed acute care hospital offering a broad range of services including 24/7 ER care, cardiology, oncology, labor and delivery, level II NICU, and surgical and orthopedic services. Position Overview This is a per diem Registered Nurse PACU role with a convenient schedule. The RN will provide direct patient care to a wide range of patients in a PACU environment, addressing physical, psychosocial, and general care needs related to the surgical environment. Responsibilities Function in the PACU environment and provide direct patient care to infants through geriatric patients. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for surgical, pain‑management, and endoscopic procedures. Monitor patients' physiological status in the immediate postoperative environment. Communicate with surgeons and anesthesiologists regarding patient condition and receive directions for management. Maintain PACU equipment and inventory. Participate in performance improvement activities. Implement pain‑management protocols and medication dosing guidelines. Maintain regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Support bedside report using IMAP & SBAR. Perform head‑to‑toe pre‑procedure assessments and reassess post‑procedure as needed. Develop individualized plan of care and evaluate effectiveness. Assess and manage pain appropriately; educate patients and families about pain management. Job Duties/Responsibilities Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for performing bedside report using IMAP & SBAR. Perform head to toe pre‑procedure assessment on all patients and reassess post‑procedure as needed. Formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluate for effectiveness. Assess and reassess pain; utilize appropriate pain‑management techniques. Educate the patient and family regarding pain management. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited or National League for Nursing (NLN)-approved RN program. Current Nevada nursing license. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Preferably 1 year full‑time or 3 years part‑time experience in a PACU setting. Handle with Care certification (or obtain within six months of employment) in the required specialty. Must successfully pass any pre‑employment assessment(s) required by the facility.
