Monitor: Lunch Recess TemporaryProvides assistance to the professional staff at the school by monitoring student behavior during lunch/recess periods within the student day. Exercises prudence in carrying out their assigned duties and shall report any difficulties or unusual problems to the professional staff. Must be capable of extensive walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds independently. Must be physically capable of prolonged standing, walking, stooping, and physical agility to get to all lunch/recess locations at the school.Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesUnder direction, provides assistance to the professional staff by monitoring student behavior during lunch/recess periods within the student day to ensure safety and acceptable conduct.Communicates respectfully, appropriately, and effectively with students and school personnel.Reports any difficulties or unusual problems to the professional staff. Keeps vigilance as to the number of students at lunch/recess at any particular time in order to detect any unusual situations.Assists in organizing activities and games during lunch/recess for various student(s)/groups, as assigned.May direct students in gathering materials, games, balls, or other items to be used during the activities. Ensures that items are returned to their proper location after use.Gives special attention to safety factors when weather or other circumstances occur. Immediately reports any injury or unusual problems to the professional staff.Trains and assists parent volunteers.Serves as a positive role model to students and parents alike.Provides encouragement to students during all activities.Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate preferred.Experience as a parent volunteer in a school environment or experience in working with children of all ages through such organizations as church groups, scouting programs, or other types of service organizations preferred.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other CharacteristicsMust become familiar with rules, procedures, and standards of the school and the school system to ensure safety and order.Must become familiar with safe use of playground equipment and rules for playground games.Ability to interact and communicate with students and staff members in a respectful, efficient, effective, and cooperative manner.Ability to exhibit respect for individual diversity and special needs of children.
