Role Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering exceptional, patient-focused respiratory care in line with departmental needs and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a crucial member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure, while performing diagnostic procedures to determine the need for and response to respiratory therapy.
• Administer respiratory therapies, such as oxygen delivery, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patients for therapeutic responses and notify providers while intervening as necessary in case of adverse reactions.
• Support the transportation of patients who require ventilatory assistance.
• Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts.

Qualifications Required:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of starting employment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) certification.
• State Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner certification (RRT/RCP).
• Associate Degree in a relevant field.
