Job Summary Oversees and directs the day-to-day operation of the Environmental Services Department ensuring a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Essential Job Qualifications Education Preferred one year of college or specialized post-high school training in such areas as Environmental Management courses where education credits have been received, and/or Certificate(s) of Achievement specific to Housekeeping. Certification from NEHA or Environmental Management Association. Experience A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in healthcare environmental service. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Language Skills Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Skills Basic computer knowledge Reading Comprehension Time Management Speaking/Active Listening Judgment and Decision Making Physical/Mental Demands Requires light physical effort on a regular basis, as in frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping or reaching. Periodic eye or ear strain included in this level. Frequent lifting of moderately heavy items (i.e., 20-40 lbs). Work demands may impose home and social life inconvenience, even though predictable on most occasions. Regular volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis. Environment/Working Conditions Frequent exposure to occupational hazards or contagious disease which require routine precautions. Patient Population Served Neonatal/Infancy (Birth-1 year) Pediatric (1-12 years) Adolescent (13-18 years) Adult (19-64 years) Geriatric (65+ years) Duties And Responsibilities Monitoring the bed board and assists with movement of staff during high discharge activity. Assists with assigning workers their duties and ensures that quality standards are met by inspecting completed work. Investigates, documents, and reports all unusual occurrences/complaints to the Environmental Services Manager and takes corrective action. Coordinates conference room set ups and work activities among departments Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment. Assists with guiding, directing and motivating staff. Assists with Environment of Care Rounding. Assists with Performance Improvement and Infection Control programs. Assists with interviewing applicants, orientation training, inservice training, and maintains records of the training programs. Ensures equipment is in good repair and tested regularly. Assists with schedule, sign-in sheets, payroll and completing performance evaluations Monitors linen usage. Assists in development and implementation of department policies and procedures and standards of work. Makes recommendations to improve services and ensure more efficient operation within facility to improve safety and patient care or to reduce costs. Performs cleaning duties in cases of emergency or staff shortages. Assists with meeting compliance with JCAHO, federal, state and local regulations. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and JCAHO regulations. Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times . Maintains a cohesive rapport with physicians, departments and staff. Coach and develop others to improve their knowledge or skills. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Attends the committee meetings as appropriate. Provides flexibility of the management team, and provides management coverage during vacation times and unscheduled PTO days. All other assigned duties as called upon.
