Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as prescribed by a physician. This role encompasses evaluating patients and developing treatment plans, while ensuring minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient needs and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients.
• Administer physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning procedures using various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography.
• Review and assess patients' chest x-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with respiratory care-related procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Accurately document and communicate patient treatments and responses in medical records.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Candidates must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license and relevant certifications to perform duties as outlined.
