C/S Juvenile Probation and Aftercare Specialist I

Summary Statement This is entry level Juvenile Probation and Aftercare Specialist work, responsible for providing community supervision and support to youth in compliance with the terms of court‑imposed conditions of probation, aftercare, or pre‑adjudication supervision. Work includes regularly applying case‑management principles and practices, as well as using motivational interviewing and a trauma‑informed approach when working with clients and their families. Employees perform the full range of essential functions, completing routine and standardised assignments under close supervision. Essential Functions Provide direct community supervision and support to youth, including face‑to‑face visits, and use evidence‑based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing to foster successful collaboration with clients. Interview clients to obtain and verify personal, social, and delinquent/criminal histories and complete assessments to determine risk, needs, strengths, and frequency of client contact. Determine appropriate methods of addressing client risks and needs based on the nature and complexity of circumstances, the client’s caretaker and support system, and available community resources. Develop and implement case plans outlining court‑imposed requirements and individual goals and objectives to be accomplished during the period of supervision. Monitor client activities to ensure compliance with the conditions of probation and aftercare through regular contact including field visits, office appointments, GPS monitoring, and telephone contact. Investigate and report possible probation and aftercare violations for further investigation and action by a probation and parole officer or law enforcement. Attend court hearings to answer questions, make recommendations, and present progress reports, including providing testimony. Prepare and update a variety of records and reports including recommendations for case disposition. Provide referrals to applicable resources and monitor compliance with required activities and services. Communicate regularly with clients and families, court officials, social service agencies, and community resource contacts, including schools and behavioural healthcare service providers, to coordinate and exchange information. Cooperate with law enforcement regarding intelligence inquiries with a goal of maintaining safety for the youth and the community. Use automated information systems and computer software to research, review, evaluate, and report on case data. Perform other related duties as required. Job Requirements One year of experience supervising and supporting at‑risk youth receiving rehabilitation services in a detention, residential, probation, or community‑based setting in compliance with treatment plans and/or court orders. OR a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or an anticipated graduation date within three months, with coursework in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or a related field. Possession of a valid Driver’s License that is not suspended, revoked, cancelled, or disqualified. Additional Posting Information This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is non‑pension eligible and does not include health care or other benefits. Conditions of Hire Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in the Federal E‑Verify system to confirm work authorization. This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement. Pre‑employment requirements include a drug test and a satisfactory criminal background check. New hires are required to attend the Statewide New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment.
