Field Engineer - Manhattan Tunnel Project

Expected salary range for this position is $100,000 – $130,000 depending upon experience. No staffing agency candidates will be considered for this position. About the Project Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture is seeking a Field Engineer to join our Manhattan Tunnel Project in New York, New York. The project is part of the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) under a $1.18billion design‑build contract from the Gateway Development Commission, aiming to enhance rail resiliency by adding two new tracks between NewYork and NewJersey and rehabilitating the storm-damaged North River Tunnel. The scope includes designing and constructing twin 30‑foot diameter, 700‑foot-long tunnels under the Hudson River, connecting to existing tunnels beneath HudsonYards, and an access shaft at 12th Avenue, later serving as a ventilation facility. Responsibilities Review project plans and develop construction schedules in coordination with project-wide activities. Coordinate with subcontractors on advanced material acquisitions and pre‑construction deliverables. Assist with obtaining quotes, draft contracts, and meet project requirements. Prepare construction work‑plan packages and coordinate pre‑construction meetings, ensuring all prerequisites are identified and completed. Prepare, update, and distribute work activity schedules/updates and communicate across discipline groups and agencies for advance notifications and coordination of start times. Monitor and participate daily in field construction processes, providing layout checks and technical reviews of work against requirements. Obtain confirmations from design engineers as needed. Assist with subcontract administration and permanent material suppliers through monitoring of correspondence, submittals, RFIs, and performance records; maintain accurate payment records. Assist in preparing monthly reporting for progress payments, schedule updates, and problem/issue tracking and resolution. Provide accurate and factual assessments of project performance; participate in change orders and claims management. Identify and resolve changing site conditions or other impacts during work planning. Develop quality checks and coordinate permits from appropriate entities. Manage and submit project close‑out in coordination with the client and third parties. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related accredited field. Heavy civil construction experience, particularly on large infrastructure projects in dense urban settings with public sector clients. Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA requirements. Experience with project controls techniques (cost accounting, basic estimating, forecasting, contracts). Strong working knowledge of the critical path method and resource scheduling. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Primavera P6. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies. Strong work ethic, highly motivated, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
