UNIV - Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Academic Detailer - Department of Medicine: Division of General Internal Medicine

The College of Medicine is seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking individual for a .5 FTE grant-funded position as a clinical pharmacy specialist (academic detailer) for educational outreach to South Carolina Medicaid providers. The candidate will be responsible for establishing relationships with physicians and other health care providers, then visiting them, often in person, on various behavioral clinical topics one-on-one or in small groups to discuss topic highlights and questions and share provider and patient tools to support day-to-day clinical practice. The candidate must also be prepared to deliver content through other suitable venues.

The clinical pharmacist will be clinically upskilled on each topic area, receive training and orientation in academic detailing, and deliver information to physicians and other health care providers through academic detailing visits where highlights and questions can be discussed one-on-one or in small group discussions. On occasion, information may also be delivered in larger settings (e.g., conference presentations). Topic areas primarily fall under the behavioral health umbrella. The position requires a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited College/School of Pharmacy and an active South Carolina Pharmacist license. A high level of organization and adaptability is required. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative problem solving, and the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines are important attributes.

Job duties include attending topic-related educational events and participating in training sessions on each clinical topic, conducting academic detailing office visits (in-person and virtual) to discuss key messages that promote evidence-informed practice behavior change or validate current practice, and collaborating with the MUSC Drug Information Center in response to provider questions related to educational outreach topics.

Applicants for the position should possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited College/School of Pharmacy, have an active South Carolina Pharmacy license, and a strong interest in improving patient care through provider education. Applicants must also be willing to travel primarily to Coastal and Pee Dee regions of the state for in-person content delivery.
