Travel Respiratory Therapist - Registered RT/RRT

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of critical care experience for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma Center academic medical center in New Haven, CT.

Job Details

• Large Level I Trauma Center and academic medical center with 1,500+ staffed beds,
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 3x12-hour shifts,
• Every other weekend required,
• Floating required between two campuses located one block apart, with shared parking and shuttle service available,
• Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department are primary work settings,
• NICU and Pediatric Critical Care experience preferred,
• Charting system: Epic,
• No on-call requirement,
• Schedules are assigned based on unit staffing needs - no self-scheduling or special scheduling accommodations,
• Navy blue scrubs required,

Job Requirements

• Current RRT credential required,
• Active ACLS and BLS certifications required,
• NRP and PALS preferred,
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy, specifically in critical care (1.5 years may be considered with Level I trauma or travel experience),
• Adult critical care ventilator experience required,
• Trauma center experience required; experience at a large trauma facility strongly preferred,
• Teaching hospital experience preferred,
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred,
• Experience with therapist-led protocols,
• Experience with Hamilton C6 ventilator preferred,
• ECMO/extracorporeal experience preferred,
• CT state license required if applicable - note that CT licensure typically takes 15-21 business days to issue; candidates should apply early,
• 1 professional reference required for consideration,
• Flu vaccination required; declinations are not accepted,
• COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions are accepted,

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include ventilator management (BiPAP, CPAP, high-frequency oscillator), weaning from mechanical ventilation, and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms,
• Airway management duties include extubation, nasal/oral airway placement, tracheostomy care, and suctioning,
• Medication administration includes a broad range of inhaled and respiratory medications including Nitric Oxide (iNO), Inhaled Flolan, racemic epinephrine, and others,
• Pulmonary hygiene, sputum specimen collection, and ABG interpretation are core responsibilities,
• Bronchoscopy assistance preferred,
• Travelers are expected to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible,
• Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler,
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved; no additional RTO will be approved after offer acceptance,
• Orientation modules are completed prior to start and are approximately 1 hour for allied health positions
