Licensed Veterinary Technician - Radiology

BluePearl Pet Hospital – Licensed Veterinary Technician (Radiology, Kirkland, WA) LVT Pay range: $26.75 – $51.32 per hour, dependent on experience and advancement through Kahuna leveling system. Competitive shift differential pay is available for eligible night and weekend hours. Shift differentials are based on a 4‑hour minimum: Mon – Fri: 6 pm – 8 am = $4.50 Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 6 pm – 8 am = $8.00 Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 8 am – 6 pm = $4.50 Shift Differential The Radiology LVT supports board‑certified radiologists and clinicians by performing advanced imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining equipment, and facilitating efficient workflow in a fast‑paced specialty and emergency environment. Primary Responsibilities Patient Care & Handling Safely handle, restrain, and monitor patients during imaging procedures Assess patient status and ensure comfort, minimizing stress during procedures Assist with sedation and anesthesia for imaging studies as directed by veterinarians Monitor sedated and anesthetized patients, including vital signs, recovery, and proper documentation Imaging Procedures Perform and assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including: Digital radiography (X‑ray) Computed tomography (CT) Ultrasound and ultrasound procedures Fluoroscopy MRI (occasional) Position patients accurately to obtain diagnostic‑quality images Ensure proper radiation safety protocols are consistently followed Provide support to fellow associates in obtaining diagnostic‑quality images Equipment & Safety Operate and maintain imaging equipment according to hospital protocols Perform routine quality assurance checks on all radiology equipment Adhere to radiation safety standards, including use of PPE and monitoring devices Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and elevate when necessary Workflow Coordination Coordinate imaging schedules between other clinical teams and Diagnostic Imaging service Prioritize cases based on urgency (ER vs. scheduled outpatient) Ensure timely processing and communication of imaging results as directed by radiologists Maintain accurate medical records within hospital systems Collaboration & Communication Work closely with ER, ICU, Oncology, Surgery, and other specialty departments Collaborate with veterinarians to align sedation plans with imaging needs while prioritizing patient safety Serve as a subject‑matter resource for sedation protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging department Provide guidance to clinical teams on appropriate sedation strategies to facilitate safe and effective imaging Offer compassionate communication support to pet owners when appropriate Participate in team rounds, case discussions, and departmental meetings as required Provide real‑time support and troubleshooting for sedation‑related challenges during imaging procedures Assist in training and onboarding of technicians and assistants regarding sedation protocols and safety procedures Promote consistency in sedation practices across departments through education and communication Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of veterinary anatomy, imaging protocols, and positioning techniques Understanding of radiation safety principles and compliance requirements Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and patient care Ability to perform effectively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced specialty and emergency setting Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Effective communication and teamwork skills Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, protocols and situations Qualifications Active Washington State LVT credential required Minimum 1–3 years of clinical experience (specialty or ER preferred) Experience in diagnostic imaging strongly preferred Anesthesia experience required Experience in hands‑free radiology practices strongly preferred Experience in fear‑free handling and/or certification strongly preferred Physical Requirements Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50+ pounds (with assistance when needed) Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout shift Capability to work in a physically and emotionally demanding environment Work Environment Specialty and emergency veterinary hospital setting Exposure to radiation (with safety precautions in place) Fast‑paced, dynamic, and high‑acuity caseload Scheduled hours: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM with 30‑minute lunch break Participation rotating on‑call required – Saturdays from 9 AM – 2 PM in a 3‑week rotation Why BluePearl Collaborative specialty environment with board‑certified radiologists Access to advanced imaging technology Opportunities for professional growth and specialty certification Commitment to high‑quality patient care and team support #J-18808-Ljbffr BluePearl Pet Hospital
