Job Summary The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for full-time Permanent Lecturer in Physics on the Oconee campus beginning August 1, 2027. This is a full-time, ten-month position with benefits. Responsibilities The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and be responsible for teaching introductory and/or general physics and associated laboratories. The normal teaching load for a full-time lecturer is 30 credit hours per year. This position will be expected to teach three, 4-credit-hour physics courses per semester (24 credit hours per year). Due to the nature of this position, there will be 6 credit hour per year course release for other duties including but not limited to: Maintaining physics laboratory equipment on the Oconee campus. Providing mentoring to physics and pre-engineering students on the Oconee campus. Advising students, service to the university and community, active participation in departmental activities, maintaining a collegial work environment, and professional development are expected. Some evening teaching may be required. This is a full-time teaching position with no research expectations. Excellence in teaching, and university/community service are requirements for promotion. Required Qualifications A master's degree is required. Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Astronomy, or closely related field is preferred. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is desirable, which could also include teaching secondary physics. The candidate must have a strong drive to teach students and the patience required to explain complex concepts.
