Overview GP-0602-15 – This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Cavazos, Killeen, TX. For more information, visit Responsibilities The supervisor provides general professional, administrative and medical direction and outlines the scope of professional services and administrative policies. Serves as an expert in psychiatry and is expected to supervise and help physicians of lower grade level in the management of difficult or complex cases. Work is evaluated through professional discussions with, and review of medical records, by chiefs of various clinical services and peer review and audit procedures established for psychiatric care at the institution. Provides duties as a practitioner and consultant in psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity. Must have knowledge and experience, ideally with military populations, and be able to provide treatment services in inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, routine outpatient, and consultation liaison settings. Offers advanced knowledge and skill in diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow‑up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients, including disorders such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. Provides walk‑in care for acute illnesses. Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on complex cases and provides professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and military liaison staff. May serve as a prescribing team member for behavioral health delivery in a forward location within a supported FORSCOM unit, including early identification of soldiers with behavioral health issues, treatment, and recommendations for disposition. Directs quality assurance studies within the area of responsibility and makes decisions that impact life outcomes, such as recommending hospitalization or determining a service member's fitness for duty. Prepares reports of evaluations according to regulations, and arranges for safe therapeutic outcomes. Accomplishes special program assignments such as training, program coordination, research, analysis, and consultation as required. Participates in Q.I. activities in the service. Demonstrates understanding of TRICARE requirements and communicates these to beneficiaries. Prepares and maintains records in accordance with SOPs. Prepares case summaries and other correspondence in a timely manner. Provides training to residents by giving lectures, demonstrations, and conducting ward rounds. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications U.S. citizenship required. Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Completion of a residency in psychiatry. Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by a recognized accrediting body.
