As an Otolaryngologist, you will undertake the following responsibilities, along with any additional tasks assigned by the Chief of Surgery:

• Assess, diagnose, admit, treat, and manage patients with diseases, disorders, and injuries related to the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck, including issues affecting the ears, facial structure, upper respiratory system, and upper digestive tract.

• Deliver non-surgical care in line with your approved clinical privileges.

• Conduct inpatient and outpatient consultations and provide follow-up care for patients referred from other clinical departments and associated outpatient clinics.

• Offer emergency and on-call Otolaryngology services as required, adhering to your granted privileges.

• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests while implementing treatment plans that align with VHA care standards.

• Instruct and mentor medical students, interns, residents, technicians, and fellow physicians.

• Engage in surgical staffing meetings and contribute to ongoing education within the department.

• Ensure timely documentation of all clinical interactions, procedures, and consultations in the electronic health record, adhering to VHA Health Information Management standards.

• Follow all VHA, VISN, and facility policies, including those related to patient safety, infection control, prevention, quality management, and risk management.

• Engage in quality assurance, peer review, FPPE/OPPE, performance improvement initiatives, and Medical Staff activities as necessary.

• Collaborate with other services to ensure coordinated and continuous patient care.

• Carry out administrative tasks and other duties as directed by the Chief of Surgical Service, in line with your professional role and privileges.

• Maintain current licensure, board certification, credentialing, privileging, and complete all required training.

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Otolaryngologic Medicine in Otolaryngology from an accredited institution.

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in otolaryngology.

• Board Certification from the American Board of Otolaryngologic Surgery.

• A full, current, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

• Exhibit proficiency in Customer Service, Computer Security, and demonstrate an understanding of age-specific care, development, and cultural needs of patients.
