Process Technician (2nd Shift)

The Process Technician supports plastic extrusion and injection molding operations on 2nd shift by diagnosing and correcting production issues such as burns, splays, discolorations, and shorts. This role focuses on adjusting temperatures, material flow, and cycle times across a variety of presses to ensure consistent part quality and efficient production. You will work as part of a small, skilled team in a high-volume manufacturing environment and receive training on specific equipment if you bring a solid foundation in plastics processing.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot plastic extrusion and injection molding processes to resolve issues such as burns, splays, shorts, and discolorations on parts.
• Adjust machine temperatures, material flow, and cycle times to maintain consistent product quality and meet production requirements.
• Operate and support multiple plastic extrusion lines and plastic injection presses ranging from approximately 400 to 1,500 tons.
• Collaborate in 2-person teams within a 4-person shift crew to ensure smooth, continuous operation of all assigned equipment.
• Produce additional component parts that feed other manufacturing plants, ensuring parts meet quality and dimensional specifications.
• Perform first-piece troubleshooting and validation to confirm correct setup and process parameters before full production runs.
• Monitor temperature controls and process parameters throughout the shift and make timely adjustments to optimize performance.
• Utilize prior plastics and molding experience to identify root causes of defects and implement effective corrective actions.
• Support safe use of overhead cranes and material handling equipment as needed for press operations and mold changes.
• Work overtime as needed, including occasional 5- or 7-day workweeks, to support production demands.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of plastic injection processing experience.
• At least 3 years of crane and Hilo (forklift) experience.
• Hands-on experience with first-piece troubleshooting for burns, splays, shorts, and discoloration on plastic parts.
• Strong knowledge of plastic processing principles, including temperature settings, material flow, and cycle time optimization.
• Ability to work 56 days per week on average, with flexibility for occasional 5- or 7-day workweeks.
• Experience with plastic injection molding and plastics extrusion processes.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and adjusting temperature controls on molding and extrusion equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with various plastics materials and their processing requirements.
• Experience with mold setup, process adjustments, and optimization on injection molding presses.
• Exposure to dual profile rotary and two-shot injection presses.
• Willingness to learn and train on multiple types of extrusion and injection molding equipment.
• Comfort working in a large-scale manufacturing operation with numerous presses and cranes.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, modern manufacturing facility with a large production floor housing over 50 presses, including 400- to 1,500-ton injection molding presses. The plant runs multiple shifts, with 2nd shift hours from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and typical workweeks of 89 hour shifts across 56 days, with occasional 5- or 7-day weeks depending on production needs. The floor includes around 20 injection molding presses, including dual profile rotary and two-shot injection presses from manufacturers such as Engels and Cincinatti Millacron, supported by 60-ton overhead cranes for handling molds and equipment. You will work in 2-person teams within a structured shift crew, using advanced molding and extrusion technology in a well-organized, high-volume production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58000.00/yr. Direct hire, benefits start 1st of the month following hire date.
