MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST II - 64030409 Department of Health - Division of Disease Control and Health Protection, Bureau of Public Health Laboratories, TB Section, Jacksonville, FL. Key Responsibilities Work independently and as part of a team with human specimens, plan, organize, and carry out daily specimen processing activities. Prepare media, reagents, slides, inoculate culture media, incubate, rotate cultures, and discard specimens appropriately. Participate in slide staining, microscopy analysis, and record results; enter results into the laboratory information management system. Document QC/QA, perform cleaning and maintenance of all equipment. Support the Mycobacteriology Laboratory by performing molecular identification and susceptibility testing of Mycobacteria, including Real‑time PCR, PRA, Hain line probe assay, GeneXpert, DNA sequencing, and MIC tests. Maintain inventory of reagents, equipment, and supplies; participate in testing rotations, culture reading, and reporting. Act as backup for other mycobacterial testing and reporting, entering results into LIMS. Assist in training personnel, proficiency testing, professional development, and student training. Plan, evaluate new instrumentation and test protocols. Answer phone calls, relay messages, and research queries from physicians and other health professionals. Perform additional related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques used in laboratory analysis and testing. Knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and protocols. Skill in using laboratory equipment. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to understand and apply relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Qualifications Minimum: Florida Clinical or Public Health Laboratory License, or eligibility in Microbiology. Preferred: BS, MS, or PhD, or equivalent education and experience.
