Project Accountant

DescriptionProject Controller (Hybrid – Houston, TX)Our client is a global, growth-oriented energy services organization is seeking a Project Controller to join its regional project finance team. This role partners closely with Project Managers and operational leadership to drive project performance, mitigate commercial risk, and optimize revenue and cash flow across a portfolio of engagements.This is a high-visibility, business-facing role offering a hybrid work schedule (3 days in-office or onsite).Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor, analyze, and report on project financial performance, providing actionable insights to leadershipPartner with Project Managers to support financial planning, forecasting, and overall project healthEnsure timely and accurate invoicing in accordance with contract terms and internal guidelinesLead recurring financial reviews across individual projects and broader portfoliosOversee revenue recognition in alignment with IFRS 15 (including percentage-of-completion and time & materials models)Review and challenge financial inputs from project teams, including identification of change order requirementsConduct monthly project review meetings to evaluate financial status, risks, and opportunitiesManage project accounting activity, including expenditure tracking, accruals, and financial close supportMonitor work-in-progress (WIP) balances and proactively address collectability and exposure risksIdentify and escalate high-risk financial items to senior finance leadershipEnsure compliance with internal controls, delegated authority structures, and accounting policiesSupport project teams with financial guidance and promote strong commercial awarenessAssist with project close-out activities, including reconciliation, margin validation, and write-off analysisQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field4+ years of experience in project accounting, project controls, or financial analysis within a project-based environment (e.g., engineering, consulting, construction, or professional services)Strong knowledge of revenue recognition principles (IFRS 15 / ASC 606)Experience partnering with operational leaders in a business-facing finance roleAdvanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP or project accounting systemsStrong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skillsWhy This RoleExposure to complex, high-impact projectsStrong partnership with operations and leadership teamsOpportunity to influence financial performance and process improvementsFlexible hybrid work environmentRequirements• Experience in project accounting, preferably within construction or other project-driven environments.• Working knowledge of POC/Milestone accounting practices, including cost tracking, accruals, and revenue recognition.• Proficiency with ERP or project accounting systems such as Oracle, SAP, Deltek, etc.• Ability to interpret contract terms and translate them into accurate billing and financial controls.• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies, assess risk, and support corrective action.• Effective communication skills for partnering with project managers and other business stakeholders.• High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records and compliant documentation.Job typePerm
