Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center in Omaha, NE, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Acute care, Level I Trauma Center — the only Level I trauma center in the health system
• 18-bed Trauma ICU (TICU) unit
• Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients 15 years and older with diagnoses including major trauma, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest, as well as ED admits and system transfers
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (ICU) and 1:4 (PCU)
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Equipment includes CVPs, IABP, Impella (core staff will take if no experience), A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — training available on most
• Ventilator management ranges from nasal cannula to full mechanical ventilation; RNs are not required to manage RT equipment beyond troubleshooting
• Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry — no telemetry techs on unit; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms
• EMR: Epic experience preferred
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
• Self-scheduling managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
• 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period
• Floating required to inpatient units across the hospital, excluding Maternity/NICU
• Manager interview required for this position

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
• BSN not required
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — a valid driver's license is required to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently or recently (within the past year) employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit Health, including CHI and/or Dignity Health (candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Fast-paced unit caring for critically ill patients — strong critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented approach are key to success on this unit
• A charge nurse is present on every shift and does take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts, followed by a pass/fail open-book skills exam on the final day of orientation (Friday) — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure to pass results in contract termination
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments — refusal to remove artificial nails will result in contract termination
• RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days for a 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Holiday coverage expectations apply per unit scheduling needs
