Position Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Culver City, CA 90232

Duration: 3 Months (with possibility of extension)

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Perform detailed reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including balance sheet, revenue, expenditure, cash, receivable, payable, and other assigned accounts.
• Review account activity and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, unreconciled balances, duplicate or incorrect postings, and other variances.
• Research historical transactions and determine the source of outstanding or unexplained balances.
• Prepare reconciliation schedules and supporting workpapers documenting account balances, reconciling items, and recommended corrective actions.
• Assist with clearing aged or outstanding reconciling items.
• Prepare or recommend journal entries and other accounting adjustments necessary to correct identified discrepancies, subject to City review and approval.
• Review general ledger activity for appropriate account classification, fund allocation, department coding, and accounting treatment.
• Assist with reconciliation between subsidiary records/systems and the City's general ledger.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities, as needed.
• Assist with preparation of schedules and documentation necessary to support the City's annual financial audit.
• Maintain an organized reconciliation tracker identifying accounts reviewed, outstanding issues, corrective actions, responsible parties, and completion status.
• Coordinate with Finance staff and other City departments to obtain documentation and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Perform other related accounting and financial analysis assignments as necessary to support completion of the reconciliation project.

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• Strong governmental or fund accounting experience, preferably with a California local government or other public agency.
• Significant experience performing complex general ledger and account reconciliations.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting practices.
• Experience researching and correcting historical accounting discrepancies.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze and reconcile large volumes of financial data.
• Experience with municipal ERP/financial systems is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently, organize multiple reconciliation assignments, and document findings clearly.
• Experience supporting financial audits and year-end closing activities is desirable.

Preferred Level of Experience: The City is seeking a senior-level accountant or equivalent accounting professional who can begin reviewing accounts with limited training and supervision. The assignment is intended to supplement existing Finance staff and accelerate the reconciliation and cleanup of general ledger accounts and outstanding balances. Expected Deliverables: The temporary professional will be expected to provide completed account reconciliation workpapers, a reconciliation/status tracker, identification of unresolved discrepancies, recommended corrective entries or actions, and supporting documentation sufficient to establish a clear audit trail for work performed.
