Special Events Manager

Summary You will serve as a Special Events Manager with the National Park Service in the Superintendent's Division for Gateway National Recreation Area located at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, NY. Responsibilities As a Special Events Manager, you will perform the following duties: Manages special events and permits. Coordinates the issuance of special park use permits. Provides information regarding the regulatory requirements for special park uses (e.g., filming, special events, sports, etc.). Facilitates communication with partners, agencies, staff and permit holders. Reviews work in progress taking corrective action to ensure work plans, goals, and objects are met. Advises and briefs senior management on identifying issues, developing problems, and potential controversies. Coordinates and produces documentation for event needs, including work orders, contracts, and permit applications. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/27/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level: Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: managing special events; coordinating the issuance of special park use permits; and developing a variety of correspondences (e.g., briefing papers, reports, and congressional responses). You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position does not allow substituting education for experience. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Some of the work is performed at a desk in an office setting. Other work requires outside work on-site to assess site conditions and monitor events. A valid state driver's license is required. The work environment involves high stress with priorities constantly shifting. Most work is done in an office setting. However, some duties require long hours and/or outdoor work to conduct on-site inspections and monitor events.
