Job DescriptionSummary:This technical leadership role is responsible for driving hardware sustaining excellence and transformation initiatives across the Pharmacy Automation portfolio, with a strong focus on customer experience improvement, product reliability, and systemic issue resolution.Responsibilities:Sustaining Excellence & RCA LeadershipDrive data-driven prioritization of sustaining and transformation initiatives, ensuring focus on highest-value opportunitiesClosely monitor product field performance and lead deep root cause analysis (RCA) on systemic failuresDrive design for reliability improvements that meet or exceed current product performanceLead strategic initiatives to improve customer satisfaction, product reliability, and total cost of ownershipTranslate field issues, complaint data, and service insights into actionable engineering programsPartner with Service, Quality, and Operations to implement closed-loop corrective actionsEnable transition from reactive fixes to predictive and preventative solutionsProgram & Technical LeadershipLead cross-functional teams to define and execute hardware improvement programs spanning multiple product linesWork with R&D functional leaders to assign engineering disciplines necessary to achieve sustaining and value engineering goals.Develop and manage integrated program plans, ensuring high-quality and efficient executionClearly articulate technical problems, solution strategies, and path to measurable business impactRapidly prototype and validate solutions where needed to reduce risk and accelerate learningSystem & Architecture ThinkingPartner with development teams to define sustainable product improvements and architectural enhancementsEnsure solutions align with longer-term platform strategies and technology roadmapsAssess proposed changes for risk, scalability, and cross-product applicabilityEngineering & Process RigorApply best practices across design, analysis, simulation, integration, and testingEnsure compliance with Design Controls, PLM, Configuration Management, and Phase Review processesUtilize Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and other structured problem-solving toolsCross-Functional LeadershipCollaborate across R&D, Quality, Service, Operations, and Product ManagementAlign initiatives with organizational goals and communicate program status, risks, and outcomesInfluence without authority in a matrixed, global environmentPeople & CultureProvide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams (direct or indirect)Foster a data-driven, ownership-oriented culture focused on accountability and resultsClearly communicate goals, expectations, and performance feedbackEDUCATION & EXPERIENCEBachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering or related field10+ years leading complex electro-mechanical systems in R&D or sustaining environmentsStrong experience with RCA, reliability engineering, and field performance analysisExperience with automated equipment systems (robotics, conveyance, controls) preferredDeep understanding of product lifecycle, quality systems, and regulatory requirementsDemonstrated ability to lead cross-functional programs in matrixed organizationsStrong analytical, prioritization, and decision-making skillsExperience with program/project management methodologies (Agile and/or waterfall)Excellent communication skills with ability to drive clarity in ambiguous situationsAt BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry.
