Details Med/Surg Tele unit within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital Adult med/surg patients under Family Medicine service with a variety of conditions and diagnoses, including geriatric population Unit includes a locked wing for Department of Corrections (DOC) patients, with 0-10 DOC patients at any given time, always accompanied by a DOC officer 3x12-hour shifts, Day (0700-1930) or Night (1900-0730) Every other weekend rotation with holidays as needed Floating required as needed Epic EMR experience required Requirements Active RN license (WI or Compact) required BLS certification required (AHA only) Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in Med/Surg Tele specialty required Experience starting and maintaining IVs required Epic charting experience required, ideally within the past 12 months Must pass a telemetry exam with strict passing criteria prior to starting, including 100% identification of lethal rhythms and 80% or higher passing score First-time travelers considered only with 5 years of previous inpatient med/surg experience Additional Information Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV therapy, and assisting with DOC patient care under officer supervision Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted Skills in wound care, PICC line management, central line blood draws, and isolation precautions are preferred Experience with substance withdrawal and surgical drain management preferred Previous law enforcement patient care experience preferred Parking requires a permit through UW Transportation if parking onsite, though public transportation options are also available American Traveler Job ID P-749949.
