Per Diem Pharmacist

Job Description

Seeking a dependable, patient-focused Per Diem Pharmacist to provide pharmacy coverage on an as-needed basis. The Pharmacist will support day-to-day pharmacy operations while ensuring prescriptions are dispensed safely, accurately, and in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

This position is ideal for a pharmacist who enjoys working directly with patients and healthcare professionals and is comfortable stepping into a community pharmacy environment to provide reliable coverage.

Essential Job Functions

• Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescription medications.
\n
• Verify prescriptions for appropriate dosage, drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, and therapeutic appropriateness.
\n
• Provide medication counseling and education to patients regarding proper medication use, potential side effects, and adherence.
\n
• Maintain the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and confidentiality.
\n
• Communicate with physicians, providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication-related questions and patient needs.
\n
• Oversee and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians and support staff while on duty.
\n
• Support efficient pharmacy workflow and prescription processing.
\n
• Assist with medication inventory, ordering, storage, and appropriate handling.
\n
• Ensure compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
\n
• Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.
\n
• Assist with insurance-related prescription issues and medication access when necessary.
\n
• Provide professional, compassionate, and patient-centered customer service.
\n
• Support Pharmacy Management with operational needs and special projects as required.
\n
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
\n
• Provide reliable coverage for vacations, PTO, staffing shortages, and other pharmacy scheduling needs.

Qualifications

\n

\n
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
\n
• Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of New York.
\n
• Pharmacist license must be in good standing.
\n
• Previous community, retail, outpatient, or ambulatory pharmacy experience preferred.
\n
• Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication safety, and applicable pharmacy regulations.
\n
• Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.
\n
• Ability to supervise pharmacy technicians and maintain an efficient workflow.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and patient safety.
\n
• Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different staffing and operational needs.
\n
• Dependable and available to provide coverage on an as-needed basis.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n

\n
• Previous retail or community pharmacy experience.
\n
• Experience working with diverse patient populations.
\n
• Experience in a health center, clinic-based, FQHC, or 340B pharmacy environment.
\n
• Immunization certification, where applicable.
\n
• Familiarity with pharmacy management and prescription processing systems.
\n
