RN - Full Time

General Purpose The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty, ensuring compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility and maintaining the highest degree of quality care at all times. Essential Duties Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. However, this list is not exhaustive. Work may also include any related duties that are necessary or applicable. Administrative Functions Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day‑to‑day nursing functions according to current rules, regulations, and guidelines. Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern nursing operations. Ensure reference material and the Nursing Service Procedures Manual are current and meet the day‑to‑day needs of residents. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director concerning the operation of the nursing service department. Review policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions; recommend revisions to the Director. Develop methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care. Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for nursing services. Participate in facility surveys and inspections requested by authorized government agencies. Review and assist in updating resident discharge plans as required. Complete accident/incident reports. Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting. Maintain confidentiality of facility information and report suspected or known violations of data security. Committee Functions Attend committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, etc.) as required. Prepare written and oral reports of nursing services for submission to committees. Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested. Participate in developing agendas for Care Plan Committee meetings. Review discharge plans for the Care Plan Committee and implement recommendations from committees. Personnel Functions Ensure adequate staffing of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and trainee aides to maintain quality care. Assign work and delegate work authority to Charge Nurses. Ensure all nursing assistants are trained and all aides are supervised by a licensed nurse. Conduct daily rounds to verify proper nursing standards; report findings to the Director. Monitor absenteeism and ensure adequate staffing at all times. Enforce departmental policies, dress codes, and complaint resolution procedures. Foster a positive work environment and lead staff performance evaluations. Ensuring fair disciplinary actions and reporting occupational exposures and fraudulent incidents. Nursing Care Functions Inform personnel of new admissions and manage room assignments. Assist with physician visits and encourage timely documentation of progress notes and orders. Collaborate with residents, families, and physicians in care planning. Observe and evaluate residents' physical and emotional status; provide direct nursing care as needed. Perform IV initiation, specimen collection, vital sign monitoring, and documentation. Authorize restraints when necessary in accordance with policy. Monitor medication administration and review medication cards for accuracy. Inspect treatment areas and ensure residents who cannot call for help are frequently checked. Assist in transportation and transition of discharged residents. Provide notifications regarding resident death and funeral arrangements. Staff Development Develop, conduct, and schedule in‑service training for nursing staff. Assist in planning supervisory programs for trainee aides. Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current in practice. Safety and Sanitation Assist in developing safety standards for nursing services and in identifying exposure risks. Ensure appropriate training, equipment, and personal protective equipment are available. Monitor staff compliance with safety regulations and hand hygiene protocols. Participate in infection control program development and hazardous condition reporting. Equipment and Supply Functions Recommend equipment and supplies needed for the department. Maintain adequate stock levels of medications, supplies, and equipment. Assist in preventive maintenance programs and oversee safe operation of equipment. Ensure proper labeling, hazardous material instructions, and efficient use of supplies. Care Plan and Assessment Functions Develop written assessments and comprehensive care plans for residents. Encourage resident participation in care plan development and review. Ensure care plans are followed by all personnel and reflected in nursing notes. Assist in MDS planning, scheduling, and revamping, including RAPs and triggers. Budget and Planning Functions Monitor economic conditions and recommend adjustments in nursing services. Report potential fraud incidents related to billing and cost reporting. Supervisory Requirements Assist with the overall supervision and management of nursing staff, exercising delegated administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability. Qualifications Education and Experience : Minimum of a Nursing Degree from an accredited institution; training in rehabilitative and restorative practices; 2+ years preferred in long‑term care. Language Skills : Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English; comprehension of technical procedures and policy manuals. Mathematical Skills : Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability : Independent decision making, problem solving, tactful interpersonal skills, leadership, and ability to plan, organize, and implement programs. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to nursing care facilities. Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and willingness to handle difficult residents. Ability to seek new methods, incorporate them into practice, and effectively communicate resident information. Current state RN license and CPR certification. Continuing education and maintenance of State Board of Nursing standing. Physical Demands Movement across the workday, including lifting up to 25 pounds, traveling up to 50 feet. Ability to speak and write in English. Capacity to manage mental and emotional stress. Vision, hearing, and, if required, use of prosthetics to meet job demands. Function independently with personal integrity and flexibility. Meet general health requirements, including medical and physical examinations. Work Environment Work occurs in office areas and nursing service areas (drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.). The role involves frequent interruptions, interaction with residents and staff, and may include activity on weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations.
