Job responsibilities:
- Mounts and connects engines, motors, pumps, steering gears, and ventilation systems.
- Aligns propulsion systems and lay out passage holes on bulkheads and decks for shafts and piping.
- Inspects and tests equipment during dock and sea trials.
- Uses machine tools like lathes and boring mills or fabricate replacement parts.
Requirements and Skills:
- Read and intrepret technical drawings and construction specs.
- Use micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Must have shipyard experience, heavy industrial work, or a related machinist role.
