Campus Security Officer Temporary (C)

Edmonds College is recruiting multiple candidates for Campus Security Officer positions. The Campus Security Officer provides general security, public safety, and other customer services to the college community. Officers are expected to perform general duty security work to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and maintain order. They patrol the campus on foot and in a vehicle, conduct security inspections, building lockups, and escorts for community members; respond to incidents, accidents, and other emergencies; administer CPR and First Aid; respond to fire and intrusion detection alarms; assist motorists with dead batteries and other issues. Officers may conduct preliminary investigations of college violations and non‑criminal incidents. Position is a non‑permanent 9‑month contract with possible extension up to 18 months, reporting to the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness (SSEP). REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent. Two years of full‑time college education in police science, safety, or emergency management or a related field, or two years of police, military police or physical security experience, or equivalent mix of education/experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Effective verbal communication skills, including face‑to‑face and via telephone and portable radio. Desire to meet and maintain the high standards set by the Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Department. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Ability to work effectively during stressful situations and manage stress appropriately. Ability to prioritize unplanned but required job duties with ongoing confirmed deadlines; flexible. Able to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to surroundings. Exhibit ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities. Effectively use a computer for word processing, web activities, and written communication via email. Trained in defensive tactics, and deescalation skills, or willing to learn and practice these skills.

WORK SCHEDULE

9‑month contract with possible extension up to 18 months. 40 hours per week with occasional overtime opportunities. SSEP is an around‑the‑clock operation utilizing several shifts to cover security needs 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The schedule for this position is still to be determined but will vary due to department needs.

COMPENSATION

Salary range $47,988 – $54,204 annually with progressive increases to $64,440. Includes a full state benefits package: tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options, and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 14 vacation days per year (with incremental increases to 24 vacation days per year). This position is overtime eligible, and when officers are scheduled to work holidays they receive holiday pay.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire. Criminal background check prior to a new hire. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. All new positions are contingent upon funding. Currently, Edmonds College does not sponsor H‑1B visas.
