In this role you will indirectly lead a team of more than 120 engineers across multiple locations, designing, developing, testing, and deploying mission‑critical weapon‑system components for the United States Military. Your leadership will help shape the future of aerospace and defense technology. Responsibilities Coordinate efforts across SDS portfolios to meet business needs, ensuring a unified approach. Participate in Requirements, Architecture, Independent, and Non‑Advocate Reviews to align designs with requirements and manufacturing feasibility. Provide directorate leadership over the entire life‑cycle: bids, program management, requirements capture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and certification. Connect geographically distributed teams, engaging talent across sites and identifying best practices for seamless collaboration. Travel to SDS hardware sites to engage with teams and assess progress. Identify, develop, track, and deploy KPIs within the discipline to foster predictable performance and highlight focus areas. Foster a culture of technical rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement in support of mission‑critical delivery. Communicate effectively with engineering, program management, internal leadership, and customers. Spend 25‑50% of the week on programmatic technical tasks and oversight of program performance. Identify and adopt emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning, to improve execution efficiency. Partner with the Mission Engineering & Technology HW Discipline Lead to align initiatives within the organization. Qualifications Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in a STEM field or a minimum of 10 years with an advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.). Experience leading cross‑functional technical teams and developing people. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance (DoD Secret). Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Proven track record of driving team accountability for project deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. Experience in stakeholder management and alignment to business objectives while maintaining a customer‑centric approach. Preferred Qualifications Active DoD security clearance. Special Access Programs experience. Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and creative work environment. History of building, mentoring, and growing high‑performing teams. Experience in decision‑making and problem‑solving in complex technical environments.
