Job Description



GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Assures the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology. Serves as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provides guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership. 

About Henry Ford Genesys Hospital:  Henry Ford Genesys Hospital delivers specialty and 24/7 emergency care at a Level II Adult Trauma Center. Our hospital is a destination for specialty care including heart, cancer, and stroke care. Our OB-GYNs/maternity care teams deliver a personalized birthing experience and advanced neonatal care for sick babies. We offer a range of minimally invasive procedures using robotic-assisted technology, imaging, and a inpatient rehabilitation center, all on one campus.

PRINCPLE DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES: 

  • Reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.
  • Recommends formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compounds and dispenses medications for accurate delivery to patients. Provides drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicates with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
  • Oversees technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
  • Assists with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students. 
  • May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs. Provides patient counseling when required.

Qualifications



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must complete a residency training program or have equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program plus PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program or equivalent experience preferred 
  • Prior experience in ambulatory care pharmacist practice advancement preferred
  • Prior experience in precepting pharmacy students and residents preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or the equivalent training and experience at another institution, preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed practice standards set for a Level II pharmacist. (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital Only)
  • Must be able to serve as an institutional authority in a given specialty practice area.
  • Must have demonstrable leadership abilities and exhibit teamwork when working with others.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. Should have a proven research/publication record.
  • Must be qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities. 

     

     

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacy Specialist position.
