Role Purpose

Train to perform all duties related to the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipmentfollowing strict procedures to ensure patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments manually and mechanically
• Assemble surgical trays and set up case carts per procedure requirements
• Monitor and document sterilizer parameters; troubleshoot equipment
• Maintain inventory and ensure proper storage and distribution
• Follow infection control, safety, and sterile processing protocols
• Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
• Participate in performance improvement and educational programs
• Demonstrate accountability, time management, and healthy work habits
• Build positive relationships and mentor others

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• For Sr. level: One year of Central Sterile Processing experience required OR Graduate of an accredited surgical technician/sterile processing program with 1 year in Central Sterile Processing.
• Instrumentation and Equipment Specialized Knowledge.
• Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
• Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association. Certification required in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded) within 18 months of hire. Staff employed prior to December 28, 2020 are grandfathered and do not need to obtain the certification.

• Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association required at the time of hire for Sr. level techs.
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
