General Laborer

Job Title: General Laborer

FLSA Classification: Nonexempt

Reports to: Shop Manager

Summary/objective

The general laborer works in the machine shop in a dynamic environment, handling various tasks related to metal production and machinery operation. The general laborer is responsible for counting and stacking finished products, reading factory orders, accurately using equipment and maintaining cleanliness in the work area.

Essential functions

• Clean and lubricate equipment.
• Keep manufacturing areas free of debris and dirt.
• Set out or put away tools.
• Ensure machines are clean and well maintained.
• Handle materials, tools, and components needed for production.
• Loading and unloading items from machines and assembly lines.
• Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
• Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
• Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
• Sort materials or objects for processing or transport.
• Move materials, equipment, or supplies.

Work Environment

• Works around site including shipping dept, machine shop, etc.
• Has tools necessary to perform work duties.
• Safety precautions: Workers in a machine shop must follow safety precautions and use protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Physical Demands

• Performing General Physical Activities — Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Operating vehicles or machinery.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience in machine shop

Preferred education and experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in production
• Forklift Certification
