The Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director in developing, organizing and implementing high quality Lifeguards and fully staffed pools. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• High School diploma or equivalent; required.
• Minimum age of 18; required.
• Strong supervisory and organizational skills a must.
• Lifeguard (including Deep Water) Certification, which includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; required. 
• Certification for Oxygen Administration within 30 days of employment; required.
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Monitor and establish work schedules of all lifeguards to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts, dates and times.
2. Expected to lifeguard if any shift is not covered.
3. Assist in proofing the lifeguard schedule for payroll purposes.
4. Provide recruitment, scheduling, coordination and onboarding for all lifeguard staff in conjunction with the Aquatics Director. 
5. Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside your area of expertise to a supervisor.
6. Work with Director in the development of Lifeguard customer service skills and job performance.
7. Understand, teach and enforce aquatic and YMCA safety rules, procedures and policies.
8. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
9. Maintain accurate records of pool logs and report needed pool maintenance.
10. Respect, mentor and cooperate with all co-workers.
11. Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
12. Accept constructive criticism and take corrective actions as needed.
13. Maintain pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
14. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
