Description The Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the wastewater treatment facility. S/he will operate, monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. This role ensures that all processes are maintained to meet regulatory standards and protect public health and the environment. Schedule Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Every other weekend, Saturday 7a-Noon Pay Based on experience, typical range $25-30 per hour. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process, storm water and sludge management. Perform the installation, maintenance, and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all components. Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery. Perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations. Adjust chemical feed systems to maintain proper treatment levels. Maintain logs, reports, and regulatory documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations. Follow all safety and environmental procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Maintain open communications regarding the treatment process and pump stations operation and malfunction as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to the system. Assist with facility housekeeping and grounds maintenance as required. Conduct the necessary weekend checks of the treatment plant on a rotating basis. Backfill to other positions as needed. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to perform and document various laboratory tests assigned for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant. Thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunction. Basic knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety. Ability to work with independence and to make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment as needed. Ability to navigate and operate process equipment control screens. Ability to adapt effectively within a continually changing and demanding environment. Demonstrated ability and willingness to communicate effectively, in English, in order to maintain high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency. Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines written in English, in order to maintain regulatory compliance. Education/Experience High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred. Valid Wastewater Operator certification (or ability to obtain within a specified time frame, depending on state requirements). Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, mechanical systems, and laboratory testing procedures preferred. Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and technical instructions. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting. Experience operating heavy machinery, preferably at a wastewater treatment facility. Work in outdoor environments and in conditions involving exposure to odors, chemicals, and wastewater.
