Senior Chiller Technician – Large Tonnage HVAC Systems Location: Detroit, MI Employment Type: Full-Time Compensation: $35-$53/hour, based on experience and certifications Position Summary Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain centrifugal, screw, and absorption chillers, as well as complex HVAC systems. Perform precision diagnostics, system optimization, and preventive maintenance to ensure peak system performance. Utilize advanced manufacturer-specific software and tools to perform system analysis and calibration. Collaborate with project and engineering teams on chiller retrofits, overhauls, and performance upgrades. Document service activities, performance metrics, and client communications with accuracy and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Conduct in-depth troubleshooting of large tonnage chiller systems (air-cooled and water-cooled). Execute refrigerant management, oil analysis, and vibration testing in compliance with industry standards. Support installations, startups, and commissioning of new systems. Ensure compliance with EPA, ASHRAE, and OSHA guidelines. Desired Skills & Competencies Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of large tonnage chillers, HVAC systems, and advanced controls. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other technicians effectively. Professionalism: Dependable, detail-oriented, and dedicated to high-quality service. Analytical Skills: Strong diagnostic abilities and familiarity with performance optimization techniques. Minimum Qualifications 5-7 years of hands‑on experience servicing large tonnage chillers and HVAC systems. EPA Universal Certification (required). Proficiency with leading chiller manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or McQuay. Working knowledge of BAS/BMS systems and digital controls. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and fieldwork as required.
