Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist (Internal Medicine)

Summary This Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist (Internal Medicine) position is located within the General Internal Medicine Service Line - West Roxbury - MA campus. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. This is a multidisciplinary posting for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. Duties VA Boston Healthcare System Medicine program has two services supported by Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs). Includes five inpatient teaching teams staffed by medical residents, a supervising attending, and an embedded GIM APP. Runs one non-resident team (the Direct Care team) staffed by APPs and an attending physician. Clinical responsibilities comprise time on the Direct Care team providing first call for medicine inpatients in collaboration with an attending physician and rotations on resident‑led teams. All incumbents work on both teams with time split approximately 50/50 between Direct Care and teaching. The teaching team follows a Monday‑through‑Friday schedule; the Direct Care team follows a shift‑based tour of duty with weekday shifts ranging 8‑12 hours and not exceeding 80 hours per two‑week pay period; weekend and holiday shifts are 12 hours. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing comprehensive inpatient medical care to adult veterans – evaluation and management of acute, episodic, and chronic conditions; practicing with clinical autonomy within granted privileges; serving as primary provider on both services; managing daily patient care activities (admissions, ongoing management, care coordination, discharge planning); coordinating inpatient care and communication for safe transitions; providing clinical guidance and continuity for residents, medical students, and other trainees; leading resident teams with a focus on patient safety, high‑value care, evidence‑based practices; demonstrating accountability to VA policies, procedures, and standards; utilizing advanced assessment, diagnosis, decision‑making, and treatment planning; delivering patient‑centered care to a diverse veteran population (ages 18‑geriatric); collaborating to improve quality of care. Qualifications and Certifications 1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory. May be subject to satisfactory completion of credentialing process. Compensation and Benefits Pay: competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.
