Senior Director, Product Marketing - CPG / FMCG

An established consumer products company is making a significant investment in the next stage of its Retail business and building a more disciplined, category-led CPG growth model. We are seeking the senior leader who can help define it, build it, and lead it. This is a newly created, highly visible role reporting directly to the senior-most executive responsible for the entire Retail business, with no management layer in between. The Senior Director, Product Marketing will sit on the Retail Leadership Team, lead a team spanning Senior Product Management, Category Insights and Revenue Growth Management, and carry shared accountability for the Retail P&L. This is a GM-style business leadership role - not a traditional marketing communications position. The successful leader will bring the experience and judgment to establish stronger CPG disciplines across portfolio management, innovation, commercialization, pricing, category leadership, customer growth, and business planning. Just as importantly, this person must enjoy building capabilities, developing people, and creating clarity in an organization undergoing meaningful change. The Senior Director will help define: How brands and categories are managed as businesses How portfolio, innovation, pricing, and investment decisions are made How Product Management, Category Insights, and Revenue Growth Management work together How consumer, customer, shopper, and financial insights translate into action How cross-functional teams align around revenue, margin, market share, and customer growth This is an opportunity to bring what you have learned inside strong CPG organizations into a business where you will have the visibility, influence, and permission to shape the model. What You Will Own Lead Retail portfolio strategy with accountability for revenue, profitability, margin, market share, and annual operating plan performance. Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team across Senior Product Management, Category Insights, and Revenue Growth Management. Establish the operating routines, decision frameworks, and accountability required for a disciplined CPG product-marketing organization. Develop annual and long-range growth strategies across portfolio expansion, pricing, innovation, category development, and channel growth. Lead portfolio decisions involving positioning, assortment, renovation, rationalization, lifecycle management, and investment prioritization. Lead the innovation pipeline from consumer and customer opportunity through commercialization and successful retail launch. Use consumer, shopper, customer, category, and financial insights to identify growth opportunities and make better investment decisions. Partner with Sales and major retail customers on assortment, distribution, shelving, pricing, promotion, joint business planning, and category growth. Lead forecasting, financial reviews, strategic planning, and business-performance discussions. Align Sales, Marketing, R&D, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations around priorities and execution. Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive leading the Retail business on business performance, portfolio choices, organizational capabilities, and growth opportunities. What You Bring 12+ years of progressive experience in CPG or consumer products across Brand Management, Product or Portfolio Leadership, Category Leadership, or General Management. Direct accountability for the P&L, profitability, revenue, margin, and/or market-share performance of a consumer brand, category, business unit, or portfolio. Demonstrated success making portfolio and investment choices, not simply executing marketing programs. Experience leading innovation and commercialization from opportunity identification through market launch. Strong financial and commercial judgment across pricing, forecasting, business planning, investment analysis, and margin improvement. Experience using Circana or IRI, NielsenIQ, retailer POS, loyalty, syndicated, and market data to drive business decisions. Meaningful experience with major retailers and the levers that drive distribution, assortment, shelving, pricing, promotion, and customer growth. Proven success leading and developing managers and senior professionals. Evidence that you have built or materially upgraded a team, capability, process, or operating model. The ability to influence senior cross-functional leaders and create alignment without relying solely on authority. A builder’s mindset, strong executive presence, and the willingness to move between strategy and execution. Experience in household products, home care, cleaning, food, beverage, personal care, consumer durables, or other major CPG categories can all be relevant. The quality of your CPG experience and the business ownership you have carried matter more than the product inside the package. A bachelor’s degree is required. An MBA is valued but not required. Comparable depth of CPG business leadership, P&L ownership, portfolio strategy, and commercial experience will be fully considered in lieu of an MBA. Why This Role Is Different This is a build role with unusually direct access and influence. You will report directly to the executive running the Retail business, sit at the leadership table, and help determine how the organization manages portfolio strategy, innovation, pricing, category leadership and commercial investment going forward. You are not being hired several layers down to recommend what should change. You are being hired to help build it.
