Job Summary

Join our dedicated nursing team on the 3B/3C Stroke Telemetry Unit, a high-acuity, 34-bed medical-surgical environment in Elmira, New York. This fast-paced unit specializes in providing evidence-based, protocol-driven care for acute stroke and complex telemetry patients.

Nurses on this unit are integral to delivering rapid intervention and maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, interdisciplinary collaboration, and adherence to stroke core measures. You will manage a dynamic patient population, ensuring comprehensive care from admission through discharge.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
• Monitor and accurately interpret telemetry rhythms, responding to changes in real-time.
• Ensure compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and individualized care plan development.
• Administer medications safely and accurately following Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapists, and case management.
• Manage admissions, discharges, and patient flow efficiently within a high-turnover environment.
• Maintain a constant focus on patient safety initiatives, including falls prevention and skin integrity.
• Collaborate effectively within a primary and team nursing model.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Minimum of experience in an acute care setting, preferably Medical-Surgical Telemetry or Stroke Unit. (Years of experience: Not specified.)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current NIH Stroke Scale certification.
