Department: School of Music, Theatre and Dance (SMTD) Location: Oakland University, Rochester, MI (with regional and statewide travel) Position Type: Part-Time / Student or Temporary Staff (adjust as needed) Reports To: SMTD Admissions/Recruitment Coordinator Position Summary The School of Music, Theatre and Dance (SMTD) at Oakland University is seeking a motivated and personable SMTD Recruitment Assistant to support the school's student recruitment efforts. This position works directly alongside the Admissions & Recruitment Manager to represent SMTD at on-campus and off-campus recruiting events, engaging prospective students and families throughout Michigan and the greater Midwest. The ideal candidate is outgoing, organized, and passionate about the arts, with a genuine interest in helping high school students discover their path into music, theatre, or dance. Key Responsibilities Attend on-campus and off-campus recruiting events alongside the Recruitment Coordinator, including school visits, college fairs, showcases, and community events across Michigan and the Midwest. Serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable point of contact for prospective students and their families, answering questions about SMTD programs, audition requirements, and campus life. Assist with Major for a Day visits and other on-campus recruitment initiatives, helping guide prospective students through their visit experience. Help set up, staff, and break down recruitment tables, displays, and materials at events. Distribute recruitment materials (brochures, program sheets, audition guides) and collect contact/interest information from prospective students. Support follow-up communication with prospective students after events, in coordination with the Recruitment Coordinator. Represent SMTD professionally and enthusiastically, reflecting the school's values and program strengths to external audiences. Track and report event attendance, student interactions, and lead information as needed. Travel to off-campus events as required, occasionally including evenings and weekends. Qualifications Currently enrolled SMTD student preferred. Strong interpersonal and public-speaking skills; comfortable engaging with high school students and parents. Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor at events representing the university. Ability to travel to off-campus locations across Michigan and the Midwest, including occasional evening/weekend commitments. Valid driver's license preferred (if travel requires personal vehicle use). Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage event logistics and materials. Enthusiasm for music, theatre, and/or dance, and a genuine interest in student recruitment. This position works in tandem with SMTD's Admissions & Recruitment Manager, attending events together as a team rather than independently. Schedule varies based on the recruitment event calendar; advance notice will be provided for travel-based events.
