$27.47 - $30.22 / hr Position Summary: The College & Career Access Coordinator plays a critical role in the cradle-through-college and careers mission of Children's Aid Community Schools by ensuring high-quality, data-driven college and career readiness programs are available to and utilized by high school age program participants to reduce the barriers to a successful transition to life post high school. The College & Career Access Coordinator reports directly to the Community School Director, works collaboratively with Beacon Program Director, Youth Advocates, and other site-based staff. The College & Career Access Coordinator will work closely with Frederick Douglass Academy III (FDA III) Leadership and instructional staff to effectively support our students. The College & Career Access Coordinator provides leadership on lesson planning and facilitation of college and career readiness curriculum; managing academic plans and monitoring student progress and coordinating activities related to college and career exploration, exposure, experience, and preparation. Children's Aid Mission: To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children’s Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children’s health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Curriculum & Instructional Design Develop annual scope and sequence for high school college & career readiness classes based on available data, best practices, and evidence-based interventions Coordinate all on-site college and career exposure activities, off-site college and career visits, and workshops for students and families related to college and career readiness including scheduling, securing space, arranging for transportation and food, etc. Collaborate with Youth Advocates, tutors and school staff to assess and identify learning needs of students and develop academic plans for individualized and group academic support Teach college and career readiness classes and/or provide 1:1 college and career coaching, as necessary Utilize internal monitoring systems to track participant progress toward program outcomes and consistently review, analyze and use credit accumulation, Regents scores, and "on-track" for graduation data to inform and improve program Collaborate with Beacon Director and Youth Advocates to provide high quality after school activities through Beacon Program for FDA III students, with a focus on freshman and sophomore classes Support the development and implementation of school year and summer employment programming (WLG, More Life, SYEP) in collaboration with Community School Director, Beacon Director and FDA III Parent Coordinator Develop and administer student surveys to identify the interests and activities students would like to experience in FDA III Attend the Attendance Team meetings to review and analyze weekly attendance data to identify trends and determine needs of students, most importantly chronically absent and severely chronically absent students Support with the development, implementation and maintenance of a referral system for students to receive services and supports offered in our school community and through external partners Work collaboratively with Community School Director and Youth Advocates to develop attendance improvement campaign to engage students and school personnel, which will include incentives and weekly and monthly award celebrations Family Engagements Work to develop and deliver college and career exposure workshops for families Assist in providing information to families about the services and supports available on our campus through formal and informal communication Work in partnership with Parent Coordinator and Parent Teacher Association to improve parent involvement in FDA III Professional Development Attend regular staff meetings, school team meetings, and content meetings, as required Collaborate with Director of Capacity Building to plan, coordinate, and implement a wide range of professional development opportunities that build knowledge and skills around the core competencies of effective youth work professionals and college and career readiness Maintain certification requirements and proof of attendance in professional activities And other related duties as assigned, at the discretion of the Community School Director and/or Children's Aid. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, Psychology or related field required; Master's Degree or equivalent work experience preferred New York State Teaching Certificate a plus Minimum 3 years of experience working in college and career counseling, college access and success, or college admissions and knowledgeable about US higher educational system, especially New York City and New York State; 2 to 3 years in a supervisory role preferred Experience working with traditionally underserved student populations including English Language Learners, students with IEPs, students involved in the child welfare system, students living in poverty, and students who are homeless or marginally housed preferred Committed to the mission of Children's Aid and Positive Youth Development Proven track record of using data to inform and improve practice linked to positive program outcomes Outstanding presentation and group facilitation skills and otherwise strong interpersonal skills Strong coaching and mentoring skills and the ability to establish harmonious relationships with team members Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus It is the policy of Children's Aid to provide equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment and is dedicated to maintaining a work environment that is free from harassment and discrimination.
