Precision CNC Production Machinist

Location: Bloomington, IL 61704

Employment Type: Contract-to-Perm

Shift: 2nd Shift | 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Contract Length: 3–6 months

Experience Required: 2+ years

You clock in for second shift, load the next job packet, and verify the process sheet. As the machining center runs an automatic cycle, you stage raw material for the upcoming run. The first piece off the machine gets your full attention—micrometers, calipers, and gauges confirm dimensions before you sign off the FAI. A few parts later, the display shows a minor drift—no problem. You dial in a tooling offset, compare the numerical readout to the spec on the process sheet, and the part comes back into tolerance. By the time you hand off to the next shift, the machine, floor, and paperwork are spotless and ready to go.

• Interpret process sheets, blueprints, sketches, and machining instructions to determine machining strategy, dimensional targets, setups, feeds, and speeds.
• Mount workpieces using centers, chucks, or fixtures; verify secure and accurate workholding.
• Operate one or more CNC machine tools, monitoring operations and control panel readouts throughout the run.
• Read common G/M codes and make size and tooling offset adjustments to maintain tolerances.
• Perform first-piece inspections, complete first article inspections per spec, and spot-check subsequent parts for quality and accuracy.
• Review job packets and stage materials during automatic cycles to keep production flowing.
• Execute basic CNC setups independently within allotted time and with minimal difficulty.
• Keep machines, floors, and work areas clean; ensure the workstation is ready for the incoming shift.
• Accurately complete time cards, process sheets, and tub cards; tag and route scrap per first-shift/machine requirements.
• Follow all safety, quality, and production procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

• 2+ years operating CNC equipment (additional experience is a plus).
• Ability to read blueprints and process documentation with confidence.
• Working knowledge of CNC operation and basic setup practices.
• Proficiency with tooling and size offset adjustments and familiarity with common G/M codes.
• Capability to conduct dimensional checks using appropriate measuring tools.
• Experience performing first article and in-process inspections.
• Strong attention to detail, quality mindset, and ability to work independently to hit production goals.
• Consistent housekeeping and organizational habits.
