Clinical Research Coordinator II Job Summary:
The Department of Orthopedics & Rehabilitation is hiring a Clinical Research Coordinator to support our ongoing research goals in the Division of Sports Medicine. This position will oversee the day-to-day aspects of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research, assist with data reporting and dissemination, and support internal and external sports medicine collaborations. The coordinator will work closely with the sports medicine clinic staff, students, and trainees to ensure successful data collections and productive lines of research. The coordinator will also work closely with our research administration staff to ensure all regulatory aspects of ongoing and new research studies are completed per protocol.
An ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, prior experience performing human subjects research, and a strong background working with data in Excel. Prior experience working with REDCap and Healthlink (Epic) is helpful but not required.
On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent could expect to engage in the following activities:
Screen patients for eligibility and collect data for research studies
Enter data into databases and perform quality checks
Transfer data to study sponsors
Assist with developing testing procedures and validating testing equipment
Assist with preparing data for research dissemination
Attend meetings with lab personnel
This position is fully in-person and on-campus at UW-Madison and typically adheres to a Monday-Friday work schedule, though schedule flexibility in terms of start/end times is necessary for some data collections. This is intended to be a full-time position, though there may be flexibility to start in a part-time capacity then increase to full-time.

This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
This position is a 24 month appointment and has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Serves as a main point of contact for clinical research participants, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues
- Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels
- Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols
Supports Principal Investigators with manuscript preparation, authorship contributions, and grant preparation
- May assist with training of staff
Coordinates multi-site clinical study activities, including activation, maintenance, and closure processes. Serves as a liaison among the Principal Investigator/research team, participating sites, study sponsors, and collaborators to administer protocols and ensure study goals and timelines are met.
- Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects more complex information, performs medical assessments, and answers varied questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. Performs medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy
- Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for clinical research trials
- Performs quality checks

Compensation:
The starting salary wage for the position is $53,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience performing human subjects research in a clinical setting, including IRB management, data collection, and data entry/quality assurance
Experience using REDCap or another database management tool
Experience using Healthlink or another electronic medical record system
Education:
Bachelors Degree preferred; focus in health sciences, biomedical engineering, or related fields preferred.
