Director, Network Engineering

Salary: $142,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• We require 12 years of software development experience, or a relevant bachelors degree with 8 years of software development experience.
• We require a relevant masters degree with 6 years of software development experience.
• We require a doctorate in a related field with 4 years of software development experience.
• We prefer 4 years of experience in a technical lead role with direct reports.
• We look for deep leadership expertise in DC fabrics, routing, cloud networking, L4/L7, and zero-trust networking.
• We value strong infrastructure-as-code and observability strategy experience, along with sound financial judgment.
• We prefer a track record of delivering cross-group programs and communicating effectively with executives and stakeholders.

• We provide leadership to one or more Network Engineering teams or a small group working on hyperscale L3/L4 networking and cloud connectivity.
• We set tactical and long-term plans, and we drive major improvements in reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
• We communicate progress, risks, and budget matters to leadership, while staying accountable for budget targets.
• We coordinate the lifecycle of physical network platforms, including planning, sourcing, qualification, and sustainment of routers, switches, optics, timing, and cabling.
• We define multi-quarter architecture roadmaps for data center fabrics, routing policy, IPv6 strategy, failure domains, and traffic engineering.
• We lead design reviews and modernization efforts such as EVPN/VXLAN and SDN upgrades, and we enforce change, rollback, and verification standards.
• We standardize cloud networking patterns such as VPC/VCN design, transit and peering, PrivateLink or service endpoints, NAT, and inter-cloud connectivity.
• We improve L4/L7 load balancing and service insertion at scale, while maintaining cost, service-level, and capacity guardrails.
• We embed zero-trust segmentation and policy controls, drive reduction of technical debt, and support audit readiness with Security and GRC teams.
• We institutionalize infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices, including code review, policy-as-code, testing, and safe deployment methods.
• We sponsor platform and tooling investments and track improvements in delivery metrics across teams.
• We set SLI/SLO policy, ensure telemetry pipelines support reliability, capacity, and security analytics, and chair capacity and performance reviews.
• We lead cross-group incident response and complex changes, and we coordinate executive updates on high-priority matters.
• We publish standards, reference architectures, and runbooks, and we run design and change councils to maintain documentation quality and consistency.
• We oversee planning and execution across multiple teams, including timelines, deliverables, resource allocation, and budgets.
• We model strong cross-functional collaboration, problem solving, continuous learning, improvement, and performance development.
