Final salary is DOQ.GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Section Supervisor, this position performs various record keeping and physical duties associated with the monitoring and safeguarding of all physical evidence and found property for the Agency.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. Maintains the integrity and chain of custody for all physical evidence and found property and ensures the item(s) are properly entered on receipt and signs for acceptance. Enters storage location, tags item(s) with identification numbers/barcode, scans and/or submits a copy of the receipt to the Records Section and retains the original receipt until the final disposition of the case. Stores and maintains all property in appropriate locations. Transports evidence to and from warehouses, sub-stations, forensic crime labs, external agencies and Arapahoe County facilities, ensuring all storage areas are securely locked. Processes property dispositions, to include: printing, assigning/tasking, researching court dispositions and other related documentation, distribution/collection and final disposition. Disposes of all evidence where final administrative/legal remedies have been exhausted. Attempts to locate the rightful owner for the return of property or seeks other means of disposition. May appear in court to testify as to the chain of custody of evidence. Facilitates and monitors the destruction of illegal drugs and firearms. May be assigned to the Unified Metropolitan Forensic Crime Laboratory (UMFCL) to work as an evidence technician and preform similar duties. May respond to crime scenes to assist and/or transport property and evidence. Operates computers and standard office equipment, including commonly used computer software programs. Conducts routine inventory and audits of misc., property, firearms, drugs, etc. Accountability of supplies for Evidence Processing, including inventory, ordering and stocking. Maintains regular and acceptable attendance at such level as determined at the Sheriff's Office discretion. Is available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the Sheriff's Office determines is necessary or desirable to meet its needs. Performs duties onsite, except those job duties that are customarily or by nature performed offsite. Interacts effectively with others. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, procedures and techniques of evidence gathering and storage. Knowledge of courtroom and legal proceedings. Knowledge of Agency and Section procedures. Knowledge of computers and commonly used computer software programs. Skilled in conflict resolution. Ability to prepare and maintain logs, files and records. Ability to operate computers and commonly used computer software programs, as well as any other standard office equipment as required by position. Ability to apply sound reasoning and decision-making. Ability to interact in a professional manner with all staff. Ability to get along well with others.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED equivalent. EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in evidence handling and/or inventory control.ORAny combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job as approved by the Sheriff. CERTFICATIONS / LICENSES: None.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess CCIC/NCIC Certification within the initial status period. Must possess IAPE Certification (CPES) after the initial status period of one (1) year. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license. Must possess CPR and First Aid certification within the initial status period. Must be able to operate a forklift. Must be computer literate and type at least 25 WPM corrected. Must be available for on-call work schedule assignments that require working nights, weekends and holidays.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequently uses stairways and/or ladders while lifting/moving property. Occasionally operates a floor jack when moving evidence and property. Occasionally operates a forklift when moving evidence and property.JOB-RELATED CONTACTS:

Through the Plan, eligible employees must set aside 9.00 percent, which is subject to change in the coming years, on a pretax basis of which the County matches at 10%. The County also contributes 6.2% to Social Security. EXPECTED DURATION OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS: Due to the nature of the application and selection process for the Sheriff's Office, applicants can reasonably expect the application process to take a significant amount of time to complete before a decision is made to hire or not to hire. Typically, it takes approximately six (6) to twelve (12) weeks from the date of application to complete the entire selection process. The length of time it takes to complete the process can vary depending on a variety of factors. Please note that this is an estimated duration of the selection process. WORK SCHEDULES:Employees are required to work the time periods and/or shifts, rotational and/or stationary, and location assignment, consistent with the needs of the Sheriff's Office. DUTY ASSIGNMENTS:All applicants hired by the Sheriff serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff of Arapahoe County and may be assigned to any of the agencies bureaus, sections or units at the discretion of the Sheriff or his duly appointed representative. Employment is at the will and pleasure of the Sheriff, per Colorado State Statute: 30-10-506. Written policies and other manuals do not alter the at will status of employment.
