Sheriffs Office - Investigations Detective Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience/Education Three years of progressively responsible law enforcement related experience Licenses and Certificates Possess valid Colorado Drivers License with satisfactory driving record POST certified in the State of Colorado Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of local, state and federal laws; city and county ordinances Knowledge of first aid and medical procedures and practices Knowledge of County geography and surrounding areas including roads, streets, landmarks, buildings and similar features Knowledge of proper law enforcement principles, procedures and practice Knowledge of practices and methods of criminal investigation and identification Knowledge of and skill in use of law enforcement vehicles, firearms and related law enforcement equipment, and principles and practices of self-defense Ability to make decisions in a timely manner under critical or stressful situations Ability to understand and exchange verbal/written instruction or information and maintain a calm demeanor during time of crisis and when dealing with persons who may be hysterical, abusive, incoherent, intoxicated or excited Special Requirements Special Requirements:

1. Must be able to work assigned shifts to meet the needs of the Park County Sheriffs Office to provide 24 hour/7 day per week coverage. This includes weekend, holiday and night shifts.

Background Investigation Psychological Evaluation Physical Examination Carry Test: Wearing a 10 lb. duty belt carry a duty bag with equipment that weighs up to 50 lbs. Lift Test: Wearing a 10 lb. duty belt lift the partial weight of a person (75 lbs) from floor to a surface 36 inches high Dummy Drag: Drag a body for rescue or restraint; while wearing a 10 lb. duty belt drag a dummy weighing 189 lbs. for 30 feet Kneel/Crawl: Wearing a 10 lb. duty belt crawl through a low area such as a crawl space and kneel Treadmill testing to 10 MET level Lumbar ROM Baseline Audiogram Drug Screen Light/Medium Duties Requirements Ability to read and review documents, reports and training materials Ability to observe activities while on patrol and at crime scenes Ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception Ability to regularly talk and hear; communicate effectively in person, in writing and over a radio or via telephone Ability to discuss situations and make presentations to the public and to testify in court Physical/Work Demands Must be in a physical condition to perform a high level of sustained physical activity Ability to occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and to reach with hands and arms Ability to restrain a suspect/prisoner Ability to operate a computer keyboard and various types of computers Ability to safely operate a vehicle Work Environment The County is rural with paved and unpaved mountain roads. Environmental conditions may include exposure to fumes, odors, gases, explosives and air/blood borne diseases. Work is frequently conducted outside in hot/cold temperatures and wet/dry conditions. Extreme wind, snow and ice conditions occur during winter months. There is moderate exposure to loud noises. Crime Scene Command First deputy on scene is in charge of that scene and is commander of that crime scene until he relinquishes the scene to another deputy, sergeant, investigator or superior officer. Any deputy, sergeant or investigator who takes command of any crime scene will be responsible to bring that investigation to a conclusion consisting of the collection and preservation of evidence and the responsibility of maintaining the record and submitting the entire investigative package to the District Attorney. If not prepared to take total control, dont take command of a crime scene. Work Schedule Work is performed on a 12-hour shifts schedule.
