What We Do The Gaming Enforcement unit provides crime investigations, identifies and interviews suspects, collects evidence, interviews witnesses, and evaluates criminal activity in Colorado Casinos. Actively patrolling Colorado casinos. Conducting regulatory investigations regarding statutes, rules and internal controls. Conducting criminal investigations. Conducting compliance inspections. Providing educational services to licensees and the public. As a Supervisory Investigator at a Division field office , you will play a critical leadership role in maintaining the integrity of the state's limited gaming industry. In this position, you will serve as a supervisor responsible for the daily operations of field enforcement, compliance, and background investigations functions. You will oversee a dedicated team, schedule field office staff to ensure adequate coverage during casino operation hours, assign and monitor caseloads, and ensure all work products are complete and accurate. Furthermore, you will manage performance planning, conduct evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions for your team. Acting with significant authority, you will serve as the Acting Agent in Charge of the field office in the absence of the Agent in Charge. This role seamlessly blends specialized regulatory oversight with traditional law‑enforcement duties, requiring you to proactively patrol casinos as an armed peace officer. You will collaborate closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, providing your specialized expertise on limited gaming and gambling practices. Your leadership will guide complex criminal and regulatory investigations, ensuring that all operations strictly align with the standards set by the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission. Supervise & Lead Operations: Manage the daily functions of field enforcement staff, assign caseloads, conduct performance reviews, and ensure adequate staffing coverage during casino operating hours. Conduct Criminal Investigations: Plan and execute complex investigations into limited gaming and criminal law violations, which includes interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, preparing affidavits for search and arrest warrants, and testifying in court. Perform Armed Patrols: Proactively patrol casino floors as an armed peace officer to preserve the peace, deter cheating and theft, and respond to disputes and complaints. Enforce Regulatory Compliance: Lead comprehensive compliance inspections to ensure that licensees, patrons, premises, records, and devices meet approved minimum guidelines and comply with Colorado Limited Gaming Regulations and Internal Control Minimum Procedures. Execute Law Enforcement Duties: Issue criminal summonses, effect arrests, transport prisoners to jail, and execute warrants while collecting and preserving physical and documentary evidence. Collaborate & Augment: Assist other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request to ensure officer and gaming patron safety, while maintaining an off‑duty on‑call status for emergency responses. Initiate Disciplinary Actions: Prepare detailed written reports for criminal prosecution and initiate appropriate disciplinary action for recommendation and presentation to the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission. Train & Educate: Deliver training and professional presentations to the gaming industry, outside law enforcement agencies, and the public, while maintaining your own required certifications. Experience Only Minimum Qualifications Ten (10) years of relevant investigative experience conducting both criminal and regulatory investigations. One (1) of which must have been at the level of a work leader, staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent. Colorado P.O.S.T. that is active, in good standing, and free of any restrictions, suspensions, or revocations at the time of applying. (required for this position). Education And Experience A combination of related education in business administration, public administration, criminology, criminal justice, criminalistics, political science, police science, law enforcement, law, psychology, sociology and/or relevant experience investigative experience conducting both criminal and regulatory investigations. Equal to ten (10) years, one (1) of which must have been at the level of a work leader, staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent. Colorado P.O.S.T. that is active, in good standing, and free of any restrictions, suspensions, or revocations at the time of applying. (required for this position). Special Qualifications Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation and a tax check prior to appointment to positions in the Gaming Division. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License (at the time of application). Applicants must be willing to work nights, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and maintain on‑call status while off‑duty for emergency and supervisory response. Applicants must successfully pass a Psychological Evaluation prior to being appointed to a position in the Gaming Division. Must be able to qualify and maintain qualification with a firearm. Must be able to certify and maintain certification in arrest control techniques. Maintain a current/valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) certification at the time of application. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Colorado rules and regulations related to Division of Gaming. Outstanding candidates will have extensive experience leading or managing complex criminal and regulatory investigations. Proven ability to develop and implement investigative strategies, policies, and procedures to support regulatory and enforcement goals. Experience supervising investigation teams, setting performance standards, and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical guidelines. Demonstrates ability to focus on primary duties. Exceptional interpersonal and team working skills. Takes the initiative to act on and follow through on work activities. Familiarity with administrative hearings, regulatory compliance frameworks, and civil and criminal enforcement actions. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant state laws and administrative regulations and enforcement procedures. Intermediate to advanced skills on Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office tools, or Google Suite related products. Experience preparing investigative reports, affidavits, and legal documentation for search and arrest warrants, and providing testimony in administrative and criminal proceedings. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to senior leadership, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement partners. Experienced in evaluating enforcement systems and recommending improvements to enhance regulatory effectiveness.
