Maniilaq Association is P.L. 93-638 Native/Indian Preference/EEO Employer Part-Time Itinerant Community Health Aide II / III / IV / CHP Job Code: 2026:OTZ-005 Location: Kotzebue, Alaska Program: Community Health Aide Program FT/PT Status: Part Time Position Summary Provides first line healthcare (emergency, acute, chronic, and preventative) at Maniilaq Association village health clinics. As directed by the CHAP Manager or their designee, travels to villages frequently with periods of work away from home. Provides CHAP services in home village when not on assignment in another village. Frequently works in clinics with minimal staffing and support in order to maintain health services. Provides on-call coverage for after-hours and emergencies. Reports directly to the CHAP Manager and when traveling is expected to integrate onto teams supervised by a Clinic Supervisor. Principal Duties and Responsibilities As directed by the CHAP Manager or their designee, travels to villages served by Maniilaq Association to provide health care services to residents. May remain in each village for days or weeks as needed. Works scheduled hours in clinic as arranged by the Clinic Supervisor and/or CHAP Administration. Provides Acute and Emergency care per the Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM) at level of training. This includes but is not limited to: a. Evaluation and treatment of acute problems. b. Report patients to MHC providers per practice guidelines. May report to other MHC licensed staff as appropriate. After successful completion of Session II health aide training will be added to the on-call rotation. Participate in MHC sponsored health‑related field trips as clinic patient load allows. Counseling as required for crisis intervention and referral. Preventive patient care per the CHAM at level of training which includes: a. Prenatal evaluations and immunizations in cooperation with PHN and MHC Providers. b. Maintain current individual health surveillance records and annual health screenings for village residents. c. Provide health education for individuals, and assist with group health education as clinic patient load allows. d. Provide assistance to the WIC Program for eligible clients. e. Provide treatments for STI contacts referred by PHN and/or Medical Staff. Chronic patient care per the CHAM at level of training which includes: a. Monitor patients on long‑term medications. b. Home visits to the elderly and bedridden patients for regular check‑ups and family support. c. Provides medication refills in coordination with MHC Pharmacy. Help maintain P.O.C. and D.E.A. controlled drug logs. Provide health administration, which includes: a. Daily medical logs for each patient encounter. b. Maintain clinic pharmacy, medical supplies, and forms. Provide direct observation and guidance of new hire and lower level CHA’s. Performs and/or assumes other job related duties as needed. Demonstrate a positive role model representing CHAP and his/her respective community. Qualifications

CHA II:

Meets all the minimum requirements of a CHA I which include a high school diploma or equivalent, pass minimum TABE requirements, successful completion of Pre-Session, ETT or EMT, and Session I; Must also have completed Session II training. Under the Supervising Physician must complete and maintain MSO tests indicated by level of training. Must attend training as scheduled. Must work toward and maintain CHAP Board Certification. Must be willing to travel as directed and willing to provide health services on a routine and emergency basis. Must have the ability to provide services under stressful situations. Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand and or sit for prolonged periods of time. Ability to speak Inupiaq desirable.

CHA III:

All of the above qualifications for CHA II plus successful completion of Session III training. Under the Supervising Physician must complete and maintain MSO tests indicated by level of training.

CHA IV:

All of the above qualifications for CHA III plus successful completion of Session IV training. Under the Supervising Physician must complete and maintain MSO tests indicated by level of training. CHP: All of the above qualifications for CHA IV and Preceptorship as required to maintain current credentialing as a Community Health Practitioner.
