Lifeguard (Seasonal)

Tunnell Companies , a prominent Real Estate Management company located in Long Neck, Delaware, is renowned for its development, construction, and maintenance of resort and residential communities. We are seeking enthusiastic and professional Lifeguards for our six pools to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all residents, guests, and staff. Opening Date: Saturday, May 23rd, 2026

Last Day of Work: Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 (tentative, pending school board decision)

Normal Shift Hours: 9:30AM to 6:00PM. You will be scheduled to work 3 or 4 shifts per week. Working on weekends and holidays will be required. Occasional early (9:00AM) or late (8:00PM) shifts may be required.

Pool Operating Hours: 10:00AM to 6:00PM (8:00PM on certain nights, at certain pools).

Qualifications:

• To obtain employment as a lifeguard, one has to be an excellent swimmer along with possessing certification in lifesaving issued by the Red Cross, or other certified instructor.
• Specific training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also one of the prerequisites for this position.
• A lifeguard must be able to carry a 50-pound weight a distance of 50 feet.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both speaking & writing.

Training:

• All Lifeguards will be required to attend certification (or recertification) classes on-site, on May 16th and 17th, 2025.
• Tunnell Companies will cover the expense for your certification, provided that you remain employed with us throughout the summer.

Requirements:

• Be timely
• Be courteous towards our guests, and project a professional image
• Maintain continuous surveillance of people in swimming pools
• Ensure appropriate headcount of swimmers
• Call out warnings to people who are in imminent danger, or who are violating the pool rules
• Provide safety information to swimmers
• Supervise swimmers to ensure that they are swimming within the safety protocols
• Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents
• Control and report unruly behavior and evict individuals not adhering to behavior protocols
• Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents
• Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations
• Perform pool chemical checks to ensure safety and hygiene, with record keeping functions
• Maintain entire pool, pool deck, waterline and other surfaces for cleanliness and safety
• Inspect and maintain rescue tubes, buoys and other safety equipment
• Ensure that all pool equipment is stored safely at the end of each day
• Other housekeeping & maintenance tasks as required

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

Overtime Rate: $24.00 per hour

Private Party Bonus: If you are scheduled to work at a private party (from 6:00PM to 10:00PM) you will be paid an additional $40.00 on top of your hours worked.

End of Season Bonus: $1.00 per hour for each hour worked during season; must be in good standing through Labor Day (Monday, 9/7/26); will not be awarded if any unexcused absences, or for poor performance issues.

Returning Lifeguard Bonus: $1.00 per hour to those Lifeguards who have worked at Pot-Nets or Baywood in prior years; must be in good standing through Labor Day (Monday, 9/7/26); will not be awarded if any unexcused absences, or for poor performance issues.

Uniforms:

• The company provides: 2x white "Lifeguard" t-shirts; 1x red "Lifeguard" pullover hooded sweatshirt; 1x "Lifeguard" sweatpants; 1 hat and/or visor. 
• The Lifeguard must provide: Swim trunks or Swimsuits (red, "Lifeguard" markings); sunglasses; sunscreen.
