Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Stepdown/PCU unit requiring 2 years of stepdown experience and comfort with cardiac drip titration.

Details

• Acute care Stepdown/IMC unit with 30 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6 depending on acuity
• Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocol patients, and pacemaker patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Charge nurse present on each shift, with day shift charge typically not taking a patient assignment and night shift charge taking a lighter assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
• Respiratory therapy assigned to the unit 24/7 to administer breathing treatments and manage equipment such as BiPap, AirVo, and trachs
• Nurses are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed
• Monitor tech available 24/7; RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, and identify rhythms
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p), with a 4-week self-scheduling process before finalization
• Every other weekend required
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating to any inpatient unit required, with travelers floated first

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
• Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drip management
• BSN not required
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Navy blue scrub color required
• Orientation includes 2 days of general orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to be eligible for travel pay rate; local candidates not accepted
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers are limited to working within WVU Medicine for no longer than one year cumulatively before requiring a 2-year break
